Ramesh K. Sitaraman

Prof. Sitaraman is currently a Distinguished University Professor and the Associate Dean for Educational Programs and Teaching in the College of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  He is best known for pioneering content delivery networks (CDNs) and edge computing services that currently deliver much of the world’s web, videos, edge applications, and online services. As a principal architect, he helped create the Akamai network, the world’s first major content delivery network (CDN) and edge computing service. He retains a part-time role as Akamai’s Chief Consulting Scientist. Prof. Sitaraman’s research spans all aspects of Internet-scale distributed systems, including algorithms, architectures, performance, and energy efficiency. He directs the Laboratory for Internet-Scale Distributed Systems (LIDS), is a member of the  Theoretical Computer Science group, and is the founding director of the Informatics Program. He received a B.Tech. in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Princeton University.

Kaushik Bhandankar

Kaushik Bhandankar is a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer at Google, where he contributes to cutting-edge projects that shape the future of technology. With substantial experience in software engineering and development, he has established himself as an expert in his field. Before joining Google, Kaushik honed his technical skills and gained valuable experience through various roles, including a stint as an Application Developer at IBM Global Services and engaging internships at both VMware and Georgia Institute of Technology.
Kaushik Bhandankar’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the esteemed Malaviya National Institute of Technology in Jaipur. His commitment to furthering his knowledge led him to pursue a Master of Science in Computer Science at the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology, where he laid a strong foundation in advanced computing concepts and innovative technologies. At Georgia Institute of Technology, Kaushik had the opportunity to further deepen his expertise by working as a Research Assistant, where he participated in various research initiatives that contributed to the field of computer science. This experience allowed him to work on innovative projects, collaborate with leading professionals, and push the envelope of computer science research. The culmination of his educational pursuits and professional experiences has equipped Kaushik with an exceptional blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

He received his secondary education degree from the Liceo Classico Massimo d’Azeglio of Torino in 1969.
He received a Master Degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino in 1974 and a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1978.
From 1974 to 1987 he was teaching and doing research at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni of the Politecnico di Torino, first as a researcher and then as an associate professor.
In 1987 he was appointed Full Professor of Computer Science at the Computer Science Department of the University of Milan. From 1990 to 2021 he has been a Full Professor of Telecommunications at the Electronics and Telecommunications Department of the Politecnico di Torino.
